Do it tired, do it mad, do it anyways

Do it tired, do it mad, do it anyways

A buddy sent me a rather uplifting meme song recently.

And at first, I thought "what the hell is this?" because the beat and his voice are pretty silly.

But when I listened a little closer, I couldn't help but resonate.

Here are some of the lyrics:

"I do it anyways; I do it sad, I do it mad I do it anyways; I do it pressed, I do it depressed Even when I'm afraid, I'll be brave and... I do it anyway Because that's what it takes to win this game"

Cheesy? Totally.

But a good message? Also yes.

Because the truth is, we're not always going to feel like doing what we know we should do.

In fact, very often we probably won't.

Because when we know what we should do is hard or uncomfortable, it's super easy to come up with excuses about how this isn't the right time because we're tired, sick, sad, stressed, busy, or whatever other realities we happen to be facing at the time. But if there's something I've learned in my self improvement journey, it's that we usually aren't completely ready to change... and we need to just push ourselves to start anyways.

Because the other option is waiting for the right moment.

... and if you're always waiting for the right time, you may end up wasting literally years of your life waiting, or perhaps eventually you even talk yourself out of it entirely and never make the change you know you should and want to make.

So lean into your discomfort today.

Do it even if you're sad, even if you're mad, even if you're depressed.

Maybe do it especially because of those things, because a bit of forward momentum can do a lot to lift us up.

And if your uncomfortable change is quitting porn, masturbation, and other escapism tendencies, and you've been slow to reach out for help despite relapsing continually... go below to learn more about what I do:
