Why consciousness is crap

Why consciousness is crap

My girl's part of a self-improvement community where the leader has a funny "call-and-response" phrase he likes to use.

"Que es consciencia?" - "What is consciousness?"

"La mierda!!!"* - "Shit!!!"*

Which I think is funny.

I don't completely agree, to be perfectly frank, but I think it's because I've gotten used to eating the shit and have actually learned to love it.

Because when I look at it objectively...

What he's saying is that to be conscious, to operate with a high level of awareness and actually face down your own demons and be seriously working on yourself as a person, is a rather uncomfortable process. And he's not wrong! If it weren't uncomfortable, everyone would do it. But as it stands, a vast majority of people will just spend their lives more-or-less living out the script that was placed into their brains and beings between the ages of 1-25 and then not change a whole lot from there. When confronted with uncomfortable realities, they'll cognitive-dissonance themselves away from it and use any manner of misguided techniques to run away from their demons.

And I don't blame them.

We're programmed to seek pleasure and avoid pain.

When self-reflection and growth are uncomfortable, it takes a certain kind of individual to lean into that discomfort instead of avoiding it. You know, someone who's... slightly insane, who's willing to subvert their deep, biological and psychological need for safety for the sake of growth.

And yet that's one of the awesome gifts of being human.

We aren't just another animal that has to live out its default programming forever.

We don't have to listen to that primal drive.

We can swim upstream against it.

And thus, we can change.

A lot.

If you're the kind of guy who ain't afraid to look at his demons, I'd love to have a chat about how we can slay them together. We can kick porn out of your life for good over the next 60 days with a deep, well-rounded, custom-tailored process that naturally results in enduring freedom, no matter how long the problem's been plaguing you.
