Beware hidden toxins undermining your health

Beware hidden toxins undermining your health

Devin McDermott

Recently found out about some mold in my place.

Specifically in my air-conditioning, which was simultaneously terrible and good news. Terrible because the air flow had been circulating those spores around the apartment, but good news because remediation was simple enough. Super important to find out though, because mold is straight up dangerous.

Sure, it's probably not going to kill you.

But the mycotoxins it releases do subtly accumulate and cause harm. Sinus problems, brain fog, inflammation markers... and the longer and/or more severely you're exposed, the worse it gets. And it's just an underlying factor that can totally eradicate the efforts you're making in other places.

For example:

I eat clean, sleep well, lift 5-6 days/week, and have generally been a good steward of my health for quite a few years. Yet, despite that, I noticed some inflammation markers increasing. A little more redness or dry skin here, a stuffier nose there. And it was rather unusually persistent...

Which is what made me start looking for answers.

Lo-and-behold, when I brought in a technician in to look at my a/c, we found the problem. This undermining factor that had been screwing over my efforts with my health, and would have continued to do so if I hadn't addressed it. I'm glad it's taken care of. That was a couple weeks ago, and I already feel MUCH better.

But the thing is, it's not the first time I've experienced a dynamic like this.

For too many years, porn was a similar undermining factor for me. I wanted to be healthier, I wanted to have better habits, I wanted to stack up more green stuff, I wanted to be more masculine and lead others... and yet it felt like my efforts weren't quite enough. I'd start and stop. Build some momentum and falter. Things weren't going my way.

And is it really a surprise?

Porn is, essentially, an extremely powerful digital drug. Studies even show that it wreaks havoc on your brain's neurochemistry in the same ways as drugs like Cocaine. So you can be trying your damn best to be a better husband, father, communicator, lover... to be in better shape, eat cleaner, make better habits... to advance your career and better secure your future...

And yet have this subtle but extremely powerful force undermining those efforts.

The crazy part?

The erosion happens so subtly over time that often guys don't even notice it until an entire corner of the house collapses in - like when I could no longer even perform in bed. Fact is, it's not possible for us to perform at our best when our brain's being hammered by something this addictive and powerful. It's actually insane that it's almost unregulated and so easy to view.

The good news?

If it's been undermining your best efforts like it was for me, you can change, and you can fix the erosion and strengthen that foundation so it's better than it's ever been. I've done it. I've helped 140+ others do it. You can too. And you don't have to wait until something is totally collapsing like it was for me.

Quitting will be one of the smartest things you ever do for yourself (and everything and everyone you care about most, too.)
