It's never that far away
Devin McDermott
The other day I was on the beach in Puerto Escondido while the sun set and the sky exploded into different shades of red, gold, and orange.... And I met an interesting guy.
I asked him why he came to Puerto, and how he ended up there. (Typical travel talk).
His answer surprised me. (It was not typical!)
He'd been in banking for over 15 years.
White-collar, high paid.
But unhappy.
He just didn't feel fulfilled.
So about 6 months ago he decided to make a change.
Started building a side hustle online while he was still at his job, often sneaking in some time building his thing while on the clock for his employer.
And a couple months ago, he quit his job.
Moved to Mexico to switch things up.
Wasn't a hard transition either because he has savings and investments, and has started earning humbly but not insubstantially.
And it helps that Mexico is much cheaper to live in, too.
So he went from 4 tiny walls every day and hating his day-to-day existence...
To learning how to surf in a beach paradise.
In 6 months.
Which connects with something I've been thinking about lately...
Always, when I was down bad and feeling hopeless but decided to pick myself back up, a few good weeks or months later, I look back and realize that I wasn't actually as far away from changing my situation as I thought.
Applies to health, business, addictions, and anything else.
That's the lesson I wanted to share:
No matter how bad it feels, keep your head up.
Because you're never more than a few good, locked-in months away from living very differently than you have been.
Which is something I've seen time and time again with my clients, too.
