Can you sit in the fire?

Can you sit in the fire?

DM

Devin McDermott

For years, I couldn't experience my emotions without escapism.

Boredom, sadness, loneliness, worry, or whatever would pop up and I'd instantly want to consume something to take that edge off. Weed, YouTube, porn, netflix, video games, whatever I could really.

Things have changed.

These days I can sit in the fire, feeling the heat of my feelings, and literally do nothing about it other than process it in real time. This is on my mind because there's been a high emotional charge recently, and I'm just riding that wave of uncertainty. So it goes.

Interesting to reflect that just a few short years ago I wouldn't have been able to handle this the way I am.

And that's the lesson here:

Developing that ability to sit in your discomfort without giving in to the impulse to escape it? That's one of the major principles that's at the very core of quitting porn and building a way of being where you aren't engaging in uncontrolled behaviors that undercut your mojo in everything else you do.

There's more to it, naturally.

And I'll continue sharing more about the other aspects like purpose, unfulfilled needs, and building a satisfying & aligned lifestyle too, etc, as time goes on.

But I want to keep this one tight.

Wishing you strength.
