Slay the weekend scaries
Devin McDermott
Weekend mental preparation:
Most guys, as they reach the weekend, start to unravel a bit.
They start convincing themselves that they "deserve something" and so they slide down into the comfort of the bottle, the games, the Netflix, or the worst of the bunch - the online harem of pornography. Convincing themselves, again, that it's no biggie. Not realizing that the dopamine hole they're digging just leaves them feeling even more depleted, empty, and opposite-of-proud afterward. Which then makes the very things they were trying to escape even more unpleasant.
🚨 Weekend Warrior Strategies
Learn specific strategies for the most challenging recovery days and how to turn weekends into your recovery strength.
The escapism loop is a vicious, self-reinforcing cycle.
But it's within your power to break it, and it starts with how you're using your mind.
Stop letting your mind convince you that it's fine, that you deserve it, that it's normal, or whatever. Start refuting the lies your brain is telling you. Because otherwise it'll continue rationalizing shitty behavior as long as you let it.
There's a whole world of things we can do instead that are rewarding, healthy, or at a minimum, aren't going to leave us with a neurochemical hangover that lasts days or even weeks.
... and something cool happens the more you stay away from the crap, and lean into the good things:
One clean weekend starts showing you that a different way is possible. Two starts to turn into a pattern. Three, and it's becoming easier and easier... until eventually, you find yourself in a different lifestyle where the weekends are no longer a source of anxiety or setbacks, but instead actually serve the function you want them to serve: fun, relaxation, connection, and rejuvenation for the week ahead.
Go out there and have an awesome weekend.
